The alternator, short LiMa, is an electrical generator that provides power to electrical consumers and charges the starter battery. Alternators are used in vehicles with internal combustion engines. It consists of a rotor (rotating part) and a stator (fixed to the engine) and produces a three-phase alternating current when the engine is running. The rotor is fixed to the crankshaft or is driven by a belt. As a result, it rotates around the coil windings of the stator and produces a variable magnetic field and thus an alternating voltage. This is converted into direct current via a rectifier.

LITTLE TIP:
This alternator was used in identical design as standard in the Fichtel & Sachs Type 505/1 engines in the Hercules Prima and Kreidler Florett K54 mopeds. However, it fits perfectly in many other mopeds and mopeds, such as the Zündapp Bergsteiger (here originally with 19 watts) or in the Puch Maxi.
