In a variomatic transmission, a centrifugal clutch ensures the frictional connection between the transmission itself and the rear axle or rear wheel. Here, as the engine speed increases, the centrifugal forces that increase ensure that the jaws of the clutch are pressed outwards against the clutch bell housing. These shoes are held back by springs so that they only close the clutch above a certain speed.
