Ein starker Funke für eine saubere Verbrennung.
Die Zündkerze besteht aus einem Metallkern, der in einem keramischen Isolator untergebracht ist. Dieser Metallkern ist wiederum von einem Metallmantel umgeben. Der Metallmantel besteht aus einem Gewinde, das in den Zylinderkopf gedreht wird. Bei dieser Grundkonstruktion der Zündkerze gab es in den letzten 50 Jahren kaum eine Veränderung.

Ein längerer Funke resp. eine größere Funkenoberfläche sowie die im Gegensatz zu einer herkömmlichen Zündkerze offenliegende Funkenstrecke beeinflussen den Zündvorgang erheblich und können die Verbrennung verbessern.
