Die von Zündspule und Zündunterbrecher erzeugte Zündspannung wird über die Zündkerzenkabel an die Zündkerzen übertragen. Dort springt der durch die Zündspannung erzeugte Zündfunke zwischen einer anderen keramisch isolierten Mittelelektrode und einer am Befestigungsgewinde fixierten Masseelektrode über und startet damit den Verbrennungsvorgang.
