DESCRIPTION:
Those were the days when mopeds and scooters had to be started with the foot. Batteries they had at that time also not installed, therefore they could never be empty. Electricity was only available when the engine was running. Then you could also flash if you had this relay installed.
Original Piaggio flasher relay for all Vespa with alternating current (AC), like all PX/PK Lusso models. The relay does not contain electronics for rectification and is therefore only suitable for AC.
It has 3 connections:
- C (green dot) = AC input
- L1 (white dot) = switched current output
- L2 (red dot) = switched current output
The current is alternately clocked to L1 and L2. This achieves the alternating clocking of the front and rear turn signals. The purpose behind this is to reduce the on-board load to a minimum so that the turn signals still cycle properly even when idling (with little voltage from the alternator).
TIP:
Due to the electronic control of the turn signal, it is also perfect for handlebar end turn signals or similar. In contrast to a mechanically controlled relay (such as the round DC sheet metal relays of the PX old models) clock then also turn signals with less load (eg when only 10W bulbs are used). The turn signal switch is then simply connected to L1. L2 can, but does not have to, serve as an output for a turn signal control light.
